Venus' Slipper orchids of the Paphiopedilum Pfitzer genus

In the beginning, and even today, Venus' Slipper orchids were classified with Lady's Slipper orchids. In 1886, on the basis of a few morphological characteristics, Pfitzer established the Paphiopedilum genus for Asian Lady's Slipper orchids.

They are known primarily as plants for shady window sills and as being able to survive in bedroom temperatures. Most plants from garden centres and DIY shops are hybrids.

I started my own collection with some of these hybrids, some of which are now 20 years old. My main focus today, however, is on building up a collection with genuine botanical varieties.

Let yourself be captivated by the beauty of these plants and enjoy browsing and looking at the pictures!
